Veteran comedians El Brendel and Tom Kennedy played patrolmen tangling with the ubiquitous mad scientist (serial villain Frank Lackteen) in this below-average "scare comedy" 2-reeler from the overworked Columbia short subject department. The squeamish British censorship board slapped an "H" for "horror" on this comedy, making it unavailable for its target audience, kids! The short was a remake of the earlier (1936) Midnight Blunders, which had teamed Kennedy with Monte Collins. The Swedish-accented Brendel and dumb-cop Kennedy were not ideally matched and Columbia abandoned the team after Phoney Cronies (1942), their fourth outing together.
