SOULS WITHOUT REASON is a dark absurd tale of a modern day Adam and Eve trying to find Eden. Henry Berst, a New York City cab driver, wakes up one morning to find that he is psychologically lost and on the brink of suicide. Through a twist of fate he ends up on a pig farm in rural Georgia where he meets Fatima Chue, who works at the local toy factory putting eyeballs into dolls. Henry is a desperate soul. His expectations of a perfect life, the American dream, have collapsed around him. When it seems that all is lost, he is visited by an Angel who intends to lead Henry and Fatima to Eden. Their journey through a maze of absurdity brings them closer and closer to the life of happiness which seems all so elusive.
Di Jiacomo notes that the imagery of the film is critical in creating this uniquely desperate world. The visual style will be inspired by the photographic works of the dust bowl era and the pictures of Diane Arbus. It is this ambiguity of emotional interpretation which will constantly question then resolve a situation.
