Released from prison after serving a three-year sentence for a crime he didn't commit, a young man abandoned by his family returns to the island on which he was born before being drawn into a conflict that could cost him his life. When Che's brother Ren murdered the son of powerful crime boss Shun, the loyal Che assumed responsibility for the crime and went to prison for his sibling. While Che languished behind bars, Ren fled to Japan in order to live with their father Chang. Chang had long since left his family behind, but the remaining members of the family are about to experience a bitter reunion. Shortly after being released from prison, Che travels to the coastal town of Nanfangoa in which he was raised. Much to his surprise, Chang and Ren have also returned to Nanfangoa in order to take up some unfinished business with Shun. Later, Che and his ex-girlfriend travel to the island of Lanyu in order to visit Che's mother's grave. Che's mother had been heartbroken when his father left, and never quite managed to get over the loss. Gripped by a profound sense of loneliness after letting his thoughts drift back to better times, Che returns to Nanfangoa to find that the situation between his father, Ren, and Shun has escalated to dangerous proportions. When a war breaks out between Chang, Ren, and Shun's henchmen, the streets flare up with violence and innocent lives are claimed. Realizing that the only way to halt the vicious cycle is to slay Shun, a determined Che sets out to assassinate the powerful gangster. But before that, Che will engage his absent father in a long-overdue conversation.
