Monsieur Valentin Simon, the Marquis de Sombreuil (Robert Warwick) is a wealthy Frenchman who has a group of Apaches (members of the French underworld of the 1910s, not American Indians) at his service. He makes the acquaintance of bored young American Eugene Presles (Donald Galaher) and introduces him to the Apaches' leader, Le Beau Robert (Henri Valbel). Eugene soon becomes tangled up in the affairs of the underworld, gets involved in a murder, and betrays the Apaches. Valentin tries to save Eugene, but the young man winds up in prison. He has more luck rescuing his protégé Jaqueline (Anna Little) from the grasp of Paris' underbelly. Later, he goes to America and meets and marries Virginia Arlen (Olive Tell), not realizing that Virginia is Eugene's sister until she shows him a letter relating Eugene's troubles. They head for Paris, where Eugene, who has been released from prison, blames Valentin for his ruin, and Virginia leaves him. This picture was based in the novel, The Court of St. Simon, by E. Phillips Oppenheim.
