A young Russian countess marries a handsome prince, neglecting to inform her husband that she has previously been violated by the scurrilous palace carpenter. When the truth is revealed, the prince orders his bride out of the house, whereupon she starts life anew as a popular opera star. The Prince shows up at her dressing room, begging forgiveness, but she tells him to get lost. He takes her advice literally by shooting himself in the head, causing her to regret her spiteful lack of compassion. N.A. Tyornowa, ostensibly a genuine Russian aristocrat, essayed the title role. Should a Woman Tell was remade and extensively "Americanized" in 1920, with Alice Lake in the lead.
