Matt (Matt Moore) meets Jane de Puyster (Jane Gail) on the street while she's walking her dog, and he's taken with her. After a wild night out with the boys, he wakes up to find that his father has decided he needs to rely on his own resources. For lack of something better to do, he becomes a "Hindu" seer. His first assignment takes him to a party that Jane is attending. She recognizes him and they renew their romance, much to her mother's horror -- she believes he really is a Hindu seer. The couple elopes, but her mother forces the newlyweds to part and has the marriage annulled. Jane goes with her parents to Tuxedo for the winter, and Matt is hired to tell fortunes at a party nearby. He is instructed to climb through a window to surprise the guests, but he climbs through the window of the wrong house, which just happens to belong to the de Puysters. Jane's mother is furious, especially since she wants her daughter to marry one of the titled gentlemen that have been sniffing around her. Jane wants to be with Matt and they make plans to elope after a costume ball. She gives him a policeman's uniform to wear, but her mother and the noblemen find out about the plan. They make several unsuccessful attempts to take the costume, and Jane manages to wed her man. Her mother is relieved when she discovers that Matt isn't really a Hindu seer after all.
