Charles Robert Dumas' short story "Lone Wolves" was the source for the pre-WWII British espionager Secret Journey. The "maguffin" in this case is a new type of shell cartridge, highly coveted by the German military high command. When an enemy agent steals the formula for the cartridge, the British secret service enlists the aid of special agent John Richardson (Basil Radford), who in "Scarlet Pimpernel" fashion poses as a drink-benumbed playboy. Richardson's sister Helen (Silvia St. Claire) aids the cause of democracy by inaugurating a romance with Max Von Raugwitz (Thorley Walters), son of a high-ranking German officer (Peter Cawthorne). When Helen and Max fall in love for real, it could spell curtains for Richardson and his mission. Secret Journey was released in the U.S. as Among Human Wolves.
