Schloss Hubertus was based on a popular novel by Ludwig Ganghofer. Wealthy, dictatorial Count Egge (Friedrich Ulmer), frustrated with his rebellious offspring, scoots away from his ancestral mansion for the peace and quiet of a hunting lodge. Back in the mansion, Count's son Tassilo (Arthur Schroeder) and daughter Kitty (Hansi Knoteck) are finally permitted to live their lives without father's autocratic interference. At the film's midway point, a hunting accident renders Egge blind and dispirited. He sadly returns home, where the dawning realization of how much his kids truly love him ultimately restores his will to live.
