Savage Gold is a filmed record of Commander Dyott's expedition to the heart of Ecuador. The film is suspiciously well-photographed and lit, leading at least one reviewer to suggest that certain scenes were produced in Hollywood. Likewise, the Ecuadorian natives seem to be rather too well-rehearsed, especially the local witch doctor, who apparently is enjoying his 15 minutes of screen fame. The best -- and most repulsive -- scenes focus on the tribe's head-shrinking ritual, with the process shown in close, gruesome detail. The film's "come one come all" title isn't explained until the final sequence.
