Lower echelon cowboy Pete Morrison and his horse Lightning were the featured attractions of this run-of-the-mill silent "Eastern" produced by small-time Lariat Productions. Morrison played Warren Randolph, aka, Santa Fe Pete, who visits the Virginia plantation of Colonel Henry Morgan (Louis Fitzroy). The colonel, a transplanted Kentuckian, has recently lost his fortune, and his plantation is going on the auction block. Pete secretly buys the land and hires an oil expert. Returning to the plantation, Pete saves Morgan's daughter Lucy (Beth Darlington) from being molested by an unscrupulous oil speculator, Dan Murray (Lew Meehan). Murray, who is revealed to be a notorious outlaw, escapes on one of the colonel's best horses with Pete and Lightning in hot pursuit. After disarming Murray in a furious fight, Pete returns to the plantation to tell the colonel that he, Pete, now owns the land. The old man is at first furious, but when Pete explains that his father rode with the colonel during the Civil War, peace returns to the plantation.
