This is an uneven and slow-paced drama set during the Japanese occupation of Korea, and focusing on one of the heroines of that period, Chai Yung-shin (played by Choi Eun-hi). Yung-shin was a schoolteacher who felt the best way she could combat the Japanese was through education. In her drive to educate the peasants around her she sacrifices all personal interests and even her health. Shin Young-kyun (Park Tong-tyuk) is an active university student who has his own coterie of followers who he feels need some strengthening in their resolve to oppose the Japanese. Yet Young-kyun is in love with the schoolteacher, who teaches in a remote village, and is also anxious to go visit her. While she has this one admirer, there is another in her village who is too shy to declare his feelings for her. But Yung-shin's dedication to teaching the peasants hardly allows for a personal life and ultimately ends in tragedy.
