Child actress Mary McAlister -- who grew up to play ingenue roles in the 1920s -- stars in this winsome little feature. Six-year-old Sadie O'Malley (McAlister) is a child of the tenements who is inspired by a settlement worker's visions of heaven. She goes looking for it, and in her search, she and her dog crawl into a laundry basket headed for the home of the wealthy Mrs. Riche (Frankie Raymond). The housekeeper (Kathryn Kennedy) finds Sadie and, believing that Mrs. Riche plans on adopting her, takes her in. She gives the girl a bath and some new clothes and lets her play with Mrs. Riche's nephew, Orval (Russell McDermott). Sadie happily believes she is in heaven. Mrs. Riche, meanwhile, returns home unexpectedly and is surprised to find Sadie there. She is willing to let her stay, but not the dog. This is not good enough for Sadie, so she and the mutt are taken back to her mother (Jenny St. George), who has been scouring the city looking for her lost daughter.
