"Sabot making" was the art of converting blocks of wood into pairs of shoes. This film is little more than a series of vignettes, showing sabot makers hard at work. On a purely educational level, the film would be fascinating to see today. Entertainment-wise, however --...well, one shoe pretty much looks like another, doesn't it. At the time of its release in May of 1908, Sabot Making was praised as a welcome respite to the general run of cheap melodramas and crude comic chases. In this respect, the film was a success -- in fact, it was a shoe-in at the box office.
