Millionaire John Walton (Edwin Arden) hates the world and although he is suffering a nervous breakdown, he still manages to make the lives of his nurses miserable. They keep leaving, but one, Eveline Roland (Julia Dean) finds out what is eating away at him from his butler, Lew (Doan Borrup). Two years before, Walton had made an old schoolchum, Alexander Vernon (Earl Schenck), a partner in his law firm. Walton was in love with a country schoolteacher, Louise Palmer (Claire Whitney), who agreed to marry him out of gratitude, not love -- Walton had saved her brother from a forgery charge. When she met Vernon, they fell in love. When Walton walked in on them in an embrace, he dissolved the partnership and harbored a grudge from that day. After hearing this story, Eveline does her best to bring Walton around. She has Vernon, Louise (now his wife), and their child to Walton's house and the two men reconcile. Once again, they start up their partnership, and Walton marries Eveline.
