The real-life Prince of Wales is depicted in a semi-mocking fashion in the 4-reel Selig comedy The Royal Box. While attending a performance by his favorite actor, one James Clarence, the Prince dallies in the Royal Box with Clarence's girlfriend Lady Felsen. Upon seeing this, Clarence drops character on-stage and loudly denounces the Prince. It isn't that he's mad over losing his girlfriend: It is simply that the Prince's presence in the theater has diverted the audience's attention away from Clarence's performance! All is set aright at the end, but not before a slapstick backstage interlude with a family of acrobats. Based on a play by Alexandre Dumas, The Royal Box was remade in 1930.
