Upon its American release, this Pathe melodrama was criticized for the alleged raunchiness of its content. The title character, a housemaid, is in love with a sailor. Unfortunately, the girl is coveted by her wealthy employer, who offers her money and gifts in exchange for her, uh, affections. When she refuses his overtures, she is immediately fired. Unable to find work, the girl attempts suicide by throwing herself under a speeding car. As luck would have it, the vehicle is owned by her lecherous ex-boss. Immediately contrite, the motorist brings the unconscious girl back to his mansion and summons a doctor. At this point, the girl's sailor sweetheart shows up, whereupon the wealthy man tries to make up for his past misdeeds by offering to finance the young couple's wedding and honeymoon.
