Released in four reels, one at a time, Thanhouser's version of the old folk legend found favor even in Merry Olde England, where the Bioscope pronounced it "excellent and workmanlike." Each of the four reels depicted an episode of the famous story, the opener explaining how the lawless Robin of Locksley (William Russell) built his forest kingdom. The second reel centered on the romantic abduction by Alan-a-Dale (Harry Benham) of the pretty Ellen (Mignon Anderson) and episode three found Robin imprisoned by the nasty Sheriff of Nothingham (John Webb Dillon). The concluding chapter depicted the return to England of King Richard (Walter Gibbs). Gerda Holmes played Maid Marian, while Eugene Redding, according to the Bioscope, made a "lusty and wholly delighted Friar Tuck, of whom we should have been well pleased to see a good deal more." Thanhouser's busy house scribe Lloyd Lonergan once again supplied the screenplay.
