Sigurds is a man in his early sixties who runs the elevator at a hospital in Latvia. The elevator has seen better days, and Sigurds is the only person on the staff who knows how to make it behave, though even he is at a loss to keep it from sometimes getting stuck between floors or breaking down at inconvenient moments. The hospital is in the process of installing a new elevator system, and Sigurds expects to retire when his machine is finally put out to pasture, but given the inefficiency of the contractors putting in the new equipment, he seems to have more job security than he gives himself credit for. Filmmaker Inese Klava followed the ups and downs of Sigurds' job for a few days, and the result was Ready and Done, a documentary that profiles a unique character handling a job that's nearing extinction. Ready and Done was screened in competition at the 2007 Hot Docs International Film Festival.
