While illegal aliens have become an integral part of California's economy, public sentiment and political clout is often weighed against them, and many illegals are forced to live in shabby, makeshift communities, which, ironically, are often a stone's throw from the suburban homes of the wealthy. Rancho California (Por Favor) is a documentary which offers a firsthand look at one such shanty-town and the people who live there, contrasting an academic analysis of economic and class division in California with the thoughts of the men and women who came to the United States only to find a poverty not unlike that they left behind. Rancho California (Por Favor) was screened at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.
