Originally titled Taras Bulba il Cosacco, this 1963 version (released in the US in 1970) casts Vladimir Medar as the legendary Ukrainian leader. Medar leads his people on a counteroffensive when his land is invaded by the Poles and Tartars in the 16th century. Ultimately, his victories prove hollow when he loses the love and respect of his son.
