This unusual film is set in the culturally idiosyncratic world of 1970s Okinawa, where language, beliefs, and rituals are very different from those of traditional Japanese society. Reishu (Kaoru Kobayashi) lost his job with the Americans after they pulled out of the island, and now he idles away his time catching poisonous snakes or putting numbers on ants. When the time arrives for a major ritual in which sexual partners are exchanged, Reishu ends up with a highly desirable woman, engaged to a Japanese from the main island of Honshu. He makes the mistake of not taking any precautions, and the woman comes out of this ritual much more pregnant than when she went in. This gets Reishu in very hot water with her pumped-up brothers, who can be dangerous and even fatal adversaries.
