Flower girl Mary Fanjoy (Alma Rubens) is swept off her feet by wealthy Cecil Grey. After their marriage, however, Mary learns that her husband is not the respectable businessman he pretended to be, but is instead a crooked gambler -- and he expects his new wife to act as a "come-on" for potential suckers. She refuses, whereupon Grey informs her that their marriage was a fake, and that she is now "damaged goods" and as such has no choice but to do what she's told. Later on, heiress Jeannette Wayne is killed during a raid on Grey's gambling establishment. Sensing a huge financial turnover, Grey forces Mary to pose as Jeannette and thereby gain the confidence of the dead girl's blind and very wealthy mother. Instead, Mary grows fond of the old lady, and begins to plot Grey's downfall. Her triumph over Grey is tarnished by the fact that she has fallen in love with the old woman's hired hand Tom Burton, but she cannot marry him because she has been "ruined" by Grey. Happily, a deathbed confession by the villain enables Mary to find happiness with her new sweetheart.
