This program is part one of a two-part series that traces the history of America's space program. This volume covers the Apollo 11 space mission of landing a man on the moon. It follows the process, which began with a speech by President Kennedy in 1961, and culminated with the words, "the Eagle has landed," in 1969. At that time, astronaut Neil Armstrong took "one small step for man, one giant step for mankind." Archival film clips, photographs, and interviews with scientists and astronauts tell the story of the historic voyage of Apollo 11 to the moon.
