The title character in this four-reel tearjerker is a handsome young artist, who seemingly has a magnetic attraction to beautiful young women. One girl in particular, a fräulein named Freda, is truly, deeply, and sincerely in love with Ole Brandis, but he barely acknowledges her existence. The story takes a whimsical turn when, in exchange for one of his paintings, Ole asks for and receives the ability to see people "as they really are" and not what they pretend to be. Blessed with this magical insight, Ole discovers that most of his friends and a goodly portion of his sweethearts are frauds and backstabbers. The only person who is not a liar or poseur is -- you guessed it -- faithful Freda.
