Banned for over a year, Greek playwright Dimitris Kollatos' film version of his own controversial and much-banned play was a smash hit when the ban was finally lifted. It's the scathingly satirical tale of the Archbishop of Preveza (Kostas Karayiorgis), whose debauchery and sexual adventures are considered just par for the course in what Kollatos presents as a church overrun with corruption, nepotism, and political favors. He overstates his case a bit, and sometimes appears to use shock value for its own sake, but both the film and play clearly struck a nerve in the establishment. Eleni Morali, Vassilis Kailas, and Maria Tsakalidou co-star.
