There can have been very few places in the world where coal miners received a fair shake. This lengthy documentary explores the working conditions endured by coal miners on the island of Sardinia (part of Italy) from 1906 and thereafter. Many of the older miners are still alive, though barely, and they tell the story of their sufferings for the camera. Some staged re-enactments of parliamentary investigations are included in an attempt to enliven this richly documented but poorly organized film.
