This Pathe "scenic" was originally shipped out on the same reel as the studio's The Old Longshoreman. Though this did not represent the first time that the beauties of Australia were recorded on film, the locale was still "exotic" enough to be afforded extra attention by movie audiences. The titular gold mine is herein worked with a hydraulic pump, a bit of equipment that was still considered newfangled back in 1910. Variety recommended the half-reel film for its "educational" value. It is a safe assumption that original prints of New South Wales Gold Mine were hand-tinted in color.
