Most reference books list 1924's Yolanda as the film debut of multi-talented comedian Leon Errol. But in fact, the bald-pated Australian funnyman made his first screen appearance in the Kleine comedy short Nearly Spliced. Errol plays Willie Live, whose wedding to heroine Della Connor may never come off due to a series of unforseen mishaps. The film's highlight was the star's fabled "rubber legs" routine, wherein the inebriated hero tries to remain upright while his legs continually threaten collapse. Ironically, the actor playing Errol's teetotalling best man was Arthur Houseman, who gained a measure of fame in the 1930s as the screen's foremost comic drunk.
