Ne Sirj Edesanyam (Don't Cry, Mother) is set in and around the shrine of Lourdes in France. The multistoried plotline concerns the various pilgrims from all walks of life who come to Lourdes, hoping for miracles in their lives. The main story involves a child who is crippled through his mother's negligence. He then is cured when his family renews their faith in the Blessed Virgin. There is no questioning the film's sincerity, but its execution is rather crude, with some scenes so badly acted as to constitute self-parody. A far better film on the subject is the 1943 Hollywood production The Song of Bernadette.
