Reporter-turned-director N.R. Acharya spins this Bombay Talkies-produced melodrama about a dedicated radical journalist, Puran (Ashok Kumar). Premchand (Mubarak), the idealistic editor of the progressive newspaper Sansar, is in love with the beautiful orphan named Asha (Renuka Devi), whom his family has raised from an infant. Yet soon after she starts working for the paper, Asha falls for Sansar's star reporter Puran, while still feeling indebted to Premchand's family. When the editor starts to hedge on his radicalism by dealing with the evil Dhaniram, Puran quits to start his own journal called Naya Sansar. Premchand quickly sees the error of his ways and not only returns to the paper's previous left-wing stance, but also allows Asha and Puran to marry.
