Co-directing with her husband Czeslaw once again, Ewa Petelski joins him in fashioning a moralistic drama about a lone engineer's stand against corruption and apathy. The subject was particularly sensitive at this time in Poland because of the Gdansk strikes. When the engineer refuses to go with the flow of the usual corruption among his bosses at work, he does not at first realize how isolated he is. The managers not only hold his attitude against him, the trade union bosses and the party secretary are also hostile to his stance. With antipathy from these power groups and disinterest from his co-workers, the man has nowhere to turn for support.
