This made-for-cable adventure served as the feature-film debut for the heroes of the Nickelodeon series The Brothers Garcia -- and, incidentally, as the inaugural episode of that series' fourth season. Whisked off to their ancestral home of Mexico by their parents (Carlos La Camara, Ada Maris), Larry, Carlos and George Garcia (Alvin Alvarez, Jeffrey Licon and Bobby Gonzales, respectively), and their sister Lorena (Vaneza Pitynski), pay a lengthy visit to the Chichen Itza pyramids. Here the siblings are confronted by their still-living ancient relative, Mayan prince Hun-Pictoc (Ricky Luna), who will be transformed into a serpent's shadow unless he is immediately reunited with his long-lost sweetheart. As the Garcia kids endeavor to play matchmaker for the prince, the film's all-purpose villain (Cheech Marin) tries to exploit Hun-Pictoc for fame and profit. Comedienne Roseanne shows up briefly as a zany pilot. Mysteries of the Maya made its first Nickelodeon bow on June 21, 2003.
