Ahmed Ahmed is an Arab-American actor who got tired of being offered roles as a terrorist or religious fanatic, and had developed more than a few qualms about living in America in the wake of 9/11, such as racial profiling and being investigated by intelligence agencies. So Ahmed found a way to confront these issues head on -- he became a stand-up comedian. Using humor to confront stereotypes about people of Middle Eastern descent and poke fun at how Muslims are perceived in America, Egyptian-born Ahmed embraces comedy as a way of defusing hatred and promoting understanding -- as he puts it, "You can't hate someone when they're making you laugh" My Name Is Ahmed Ahmed is a short documentary on the comedian that examines his life, his career and his philosophy; the film was screened in competition at the 2007 Silverdocs Film Festival.
