The success of the Japanese runs of Victor/Victoria, La Cage aux Folles and similar movies has clearly inspired this movie. Despite its derivative subject matter, it is groundbreaking for a Japanese film in its matter-of-fact acceptance of various aspects of Japan's gay subculture. In the story, Daisuke Yamazaki (Tsurutaro Kataoka) has been working for a loan company. When he loses this job, an old acquaintance from bygone days helps him get a job doing the bookkeeping for a gay drag club. Because he needs to earn some extra cash to pay for an operation for his son, he is persuaded to dress up with the guys and appear in the club's show. He has to go to some lengths to avoid being recognized by a member of the audience, and is troubled to discover that he is strongly attracted to another club employee. Since he's never seen (him? her?) out of drag, the person he is drawn to may or may not be a woman.
