Motorboating was the August 1917 edition of the monthly "Klever Komedies," a series of one-reelers starring Broadway's Victor Moore. While trying to unload his old Model T Ford, Moore spots a classified ad offering a motorboat in exchange for an automobile. Only one problem: The boat owner has specified that he doesn't want any Model T's. Obligingly, Moore disguises his "Tin Lizzie" as a different model (how he does this has been lost to the ages) and manages to negotiate the trade. After this promising opening, Motorboating bogged down into a series of predictable maritime jokes, ending with Moore bobbing up and down on the water's surface in an oversized life preserver.
