Female filmmakers Johanna Straub, Michaela Schaeuble, Nan Mellinger, and Sandra Kulbach each explore their relationships with their mothers on film in this frank and honest omnibus documentary. While Kulbach and her mother, Hilde, rarely find a common ground in conversation, there is an unspoken respect that underscores their opinionated debates -- even when it comes to the sensitive subject of Kulbach's impending motherhood. Meanwhile, it slowly becomes obvious just how issues can be handed down through bloodlines as Schaeuble's mother, Veronika, admits that her own strong-willed mother never taught her how to properly take care of herself. Britta is a former classmate of Yves St. Laurent whose obsession with order has bled into every aspect of her life, and Maria sights the death of her son three years prior as the reason she now lives completely free of fear.
