This World drama stars Muriel Ostriche, who was more often seen in supporting roles. Scottish immigrant Joshua Anson (Edward Elkas) has made a fortune in America with his ribbon mill. He wants his son, Chadwick (Arthur Ashley), to take over the business, and to marry a girl of equal wealth and social standing. But Chadwick has fallen in love with Mary McClinton (Ostriche), the daughter of the factory's oldest employee (Robert Forsyth). McClinton, meanwhile, wants to marry his daughter off to a fellow mill worker, and he believes that Chadwick is merely trifling with Mary's affections. After overcoming the obstacles their two families have set for them, Chadwick and Mary elope. McClinton happily discovers that they have actually wed just after he's already erased Mary's name from the family Bible. Anson, however, is not at all thrilled with the marriage and he tries to buy Mary off. When she indignantly refuses his offer he says he will disown Chadwick unless they get a divorce. Then Mary agrees to go to Reno, for the hefty price of one hundred thousand dollars. So Mary gets the divorce and comes back six months later to collect. But as soon as she has the money, she proposes to Chadwick and offers him the payment. When he realizes that she's not the gold-digger he thought she was, Chadwick hugs her. Anson is impressed by Mary's action and decides that she would make a good daughter-in-law after all.
