A young woman's journey through the sleazy side of show business is documented by an intimate friend in this vintage sexploitation opus. Monique (Linda Boyce) is a sensuous would-be actress who comes to New York City to break into show business, where she shares an apartment with her friend Rita (Gerri Miller), a pensive and bookish intellectual. Rita is writing a book about Monique's efforts to find work in the movies, and Monique hides nothing from her -- the physical advances of a low-budget film producer, her training in smutty cinema (which takes the form of watching some of the director's kinkier early works), and her role in a sleazy peep-show reel. Monique's willingness to bare all about her strange experiences on the underside of the picture business has a profound effect on Rita, bringing forth emotions she's never felt before, and she finds herself both physically and emotionally attracted to her friend. Shot silent with sexy female narration in the manner of its companion piece Babette, Monique, My Friend's direction was credited to Peter Woodcock, a name that was used as an on-screen "pen name" by veteran exploitation filmmaker Roberta Findlay.
