Albert Chevalier, a popular British stage and music-hall luminary whose chief claim to fame was the sentimental ballad My Old Dutch, starred in this screen adaptation of Henry Arthur Jones' theatrical success The Middleman. There were those who felt that Chevalier was ill-suited to his role, preferring instead the star of the original stage version, E.S. Willard. Others were convinced that the film's producers could have made no better choice for the role of "middleman" Cyrus Bienkarn than the estimable Mr. Chevalier. The story, involving a star-crossed romance at a pottery factory, afforded the star ample opportunity to elicit both laughter and tears from the audience. Equally enjoyable was the performance of Jane Gail as the beleaguered heroine.
