The plot of this Lubin comedy hinges on heroine Matilda's search for a man -- any man. Unfortunately, Matilda is a bit too aggressive, and she chases off several likely prospects. When she finally does locate the man of her dreams, he too runs like a bunny and just into a shallow stream. Comedy of this nature required good actors to pull off, but apparently such actors were not hired for Matilda's Winning Ways. Variety not only panned the picture, but complained that it was predicated on an "old" idea (and since this was 1910, it had to be really old).
