Director of the first sound film in Tamil, H.M. Reddy adapts this historical film about an Indian king's resistance against Alexander the Great's onslaught from a noted Bengali play by Dwijendralal Roy. Greek general Minander (C.S.D. Singh) is in charge of Alexander's army while Ugrasen (S. Santhanam), the king of Udayagiri, marshals his forces to oppose it. Meanwhile, Minander's daughter falls for the Indian sovereign and eventually marries him when the Greek army retreats. At the same time, fiercely -- and anachronistically -- nationalistic Kumudini (T.V. Kumudini) throws her husband Jayapala (Santhanam again) out of the house when she learns that he is a Greek spy. The film was banned for a time by the British authorities.
