This Greek production co-stars prolific character actor Joseph Matre, who also wrote and directed. The story is set in 1850, at a time when Greece was ruled by Bavarian-born King Othon. Maria (Nella May), the heroine, takes the blame for the murder of her brother, though it is clear that she is shielding someone. Maria's father (Matre) secures a pardon for the girl from the King, but his gesture is futile: Upon her return home, the girl is attacked and reviled by the angry villagers. She joins a band of outlaws and soon becomes a much-feared (and highly respected) bandit queen. But she remains loyal to King Othon, and when Greece is threatened with invasion, it is Maria and her minions who come galloping to the rescue.
