For the naturalist documentary Man on Land (aka Les Hommes, 2007), French director Ariane Michel (Sur la Terre) explores cinematographically the intersection of homo sapiens and wild fauna, against the backdrop of a wild and untamed landscape. To accomplish this end, Michel joins the on-board crew of the Tara V, a boat transporting a team of men out to the seemingly endless tundra of Greenland, where they will act not as hunters but as observers. Camera in hand, the director raises a series of key questions about man's presence on the natural landscape.
