Man of Courage was adapted from Camicia Nera, a novel written by no less than Italian dictator Benito Mussolini! Il Duce also supervised the making of this film, which explains why it ends up as an unabashed paean to fascism. The story concerns a patriotic young Italian who marches off to WWI, where he loses his memory during a particularly bloody battle. The amnesiac soldier is reported missing, causing no end of grief for his young son. As our hero painstakingly puts his memory back together, war-ravaged Italy gets back on its financial feet thanks to the forceful leadership of Mussolini and his staff. Thus it is that the soldier finally awakens to a Brave New World of peace, hope and prosperity (until 1940, that is!)
