As a child, Lozen watched her father murdered and her mother captured. As a teenager, she fought and trained alongside the males of her tribe, developing her God given gifts of strength and spirituality to become a feared and powerful warrior as an adult. When her brother and the other males of her tribe are massacred, she valiantly and successfully leads an all-female war party against the killers.
Hunted and pursued by the United States military, Lozen becomes dedicated to remaining free. She is joined by the only man to ever claim her heart, a handsome, rugged frontiersman from her homeland of Warm Springs. He boldly teams up with Lozen and her small band of mostly female "renegades" in a daring attempt to escape across the desert. The incredible strength, courage, and war skills of the Apache women, many of them mothers, become evident as they are relentlessly pursued by bounty hunters and the military. Set against the magnificent land of New Mexico in the late 1800's and based on historical reality, Lozen's story is riveting, educational, and heart-breaking.
