Legendary baseball player Christy Mathewson played "himself" in the Bison two-reeler Love and Baseball. It's the bucolic tale of a farm boy (Mathewson) with a dynamite pitching arm. Discovered by a baseball scout, the hero is dragged kicking and screaming to the Big City, and thereafter rises to fame in the Major Leagues. The finale takes place at New York's Polo Grounds, where Mathewson pitches a winning game against Chicago, and simultaneously wins the love of the winsome heroine. The film does not include the colorful Mathewson's habit of driving his roadster onto the baseball field, but very little else is left out of this hero-worshipping vehicle.
