The half-brother of Universal's saddle ace Jack Hoxie, Al Hoxie, starred in this miniscule silent oater about a young outlaw redeemed by the love of a young girl (Alma Rayford). The girl and her father (Andrew Waldron) have been taken prisoner by the gang leader (Leon Kent aka Leon de la Mothe), and Hoxie not only manages to free them, but he also brings the entire gang to justice. Directed by the veteran J.P. McGowan, The Lost Trail also featured well-known B-Western players Frank Ellis, Charles "Slim" Whitaker and L.J. O'Connor. The film was one of eight Hoxie Westerns produced by poverty row entrepreneur Morris R. Schlank.
