Director T. Nicole Atkinson explores and challenges societal standards and stereotypes of beauty in this lively documentary about women who have "locked up," choosing to wear their hair in dreadlocks. The film combines personal anecdotes, the origin of dreadlocks, and hair tips in what Evelyn C. White, editor of The Black Women's Health Book, calls, "A shining testament to the determination of black women to embrace our natural beauty in the face of it all." Atkinson's film earned the San Francisco International Film Festival's Golden Gate Award, a Black Independent Film & Video Competition award, and was featured at the Women of Color Film Festival.
