Growing up in the shadow of his legendary father, Hank Williams Jr. (Richard Thomas) struggles with alcoholism. His domineering mother (Allyn Ann McLerie) raises him after Hank Sr. dies, when his son is just a boy. For most of his childhood, Hank Jr. is put on stage to sing his father's material. After nearly dying from a fall while mountain climbing, Williams makes his peace with his father's reputation, finding his own musical voice and success on his own terms.
