While she is in the middle of holding a suffragette meeting, Lillian (Lillian Walker) receives a letter from her guardian, Turner (Donald Hall). He wants to hear that she is happily married, and that she is not a suffragette. Lillian's girlfriends suggest that she should find a fiance, quick, so just to put one over on Turner, she shows him a photo of Jack, who is engaged to one of her pals. But she screws things up and Turner suspiciously puts a detective on Jack's trail. Lillian is still in need of a spouse, so she pays a man to marry her and then disappear. He disappears with the money and gives the plan away to Turner before he marries Lillian. Turner disguises himself and takes the man's place. When Lillian discovers she has married her guardian, she decides she is happy with her new husband.
